TikTok married couple stay together after finding out they're actually cousins

A married couple have gone viral on TikTok, after finding out they’re actually cousins, and it’s happened to more people than you’d think.
Utah couple Nick and Tylee Waters have over 20k followers on their joint TikTok account, where they post normal couple things. However, it seems like upon further look, they’re not exactly your everyday couple.
TikTok couple stay married after finding out their cousins
The couple made the revelation via a short six-second video on the app, which read: “3 years into marriage and we just found out we are cousins,” as they stood together arm in arm.
However, it seemed like the shocking revelation didn’t bother them as they proceeded to lock lips at the end of the post.
In the caption, the influencer couple penned: “I wish I was kidding”, whilst playing the song Sweet Home Alabama in the background. The video has since gained over 5.7 million views.
If the kiss didn’t confirm enough that they’d decided to stay in the marriage, Nick and Tylee then posted a separate reel, replying to someone asking the question.
In the ‘silly’ video the two danced around to the Skibidi Bop Yes Song, as they jokingly wrote: “We thought about it real hard, and our answer is….” while the words “Yes, yes, yes, yes” played in the background.
Although they’ve been asked by a number of users, the couple have not revealed whether they’re close cousins, or are as far as 12th cousins. They have also not disclosed how they met or found out.
Nick and Kaylee reside in Utah, where the law states: “You cannot marry your first cousin, or anyone related more closely than a first cousin, such as an aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, parent or child, brother or sister. However, first cousins can marry if both are over 65 or, if both parties are over 55 if the court finds that they are unable to reproduce.”
If being cousins wasn’t enough, the two also stated on a further TikTok that they actually share the same birthday, as well as being told they look alike, and many fans agreed with the statement in the comments.
Fans relate to the couple’s story
Although the revelation may be shocking to some social media users, many in the comments actually relate to the story.
“Same thing happened to us, married for 3 years with a kid and then found out we’re 5th cousins once removed,” penned one.
Another, who could also relate said: “My mom waited until we were pregnant to tell us we were 4th cousins once removed.”
“My parents were 3rd cousins,” another claimed.
Upon seeing all the videos and the comments, one shocked fan wrote: “My jaw is on the floor.”
