Jack Black's favorite co-star in all of Hollywood - and he only worked with them once
The pairing between Jack Black and Kate Winslet in The Holiday was spectacular. A Christmas movie classic many fans love to tune into every festive season, it left a warm fuzzy feeling in our hearts. But it seems it did for the Kung Fu Panda star too.
Jack Black was recently asked who his favorite co-star has ever been – out of the extensive list of people he’s worked with. The celebrity has been making films for decades, and still manages to make time to make magic with his group Tenacious D. But the Hollywood star didn’t hesitate to say one actress was his absolutely favorite above them all. And when you hear why Jack Black said Kate Winslet, it’s actually incredibly touching.
Jack Black adores Kate Winslet
Jack Black told Entertainment Tonight his favorite co-star was, the person who stands out among his long list of peers, was none other than Kate Winslet.
The Titanic star and Black were cast in a love triangle – or square? – in Christmas movie The Holiday. We see Kate’s character, Iris, swap homes with Amanda (Cameron Diaz), across the world after having terrible luck in love. Iris ends up bumping into Miles (Black), and they form a strong friendship before realizing there’s something else there. Cue the Hollywood magic touch and we’ve got a hit.
Considering he’s worked with the likes of huge stars, say Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law – why did Jack Black pick Kate Winslet?
He says: “You know what? The first one that comes to mind — and I’m gonna say it just cause it’s the first one that comes to mind.”
Jack Black continued: “Kate Winslet and I’ll tell you why. She was my favorite co-star I’ve ever had because when you look in her eyes, she was like really present.
“I feel like if you look into my eyes, you just see a shadow of a robot.”
It comes after Kate told Jimmy Fallon last week more people recognize her for the Christmas flick over Titanic – which is one of the biggest films ever made.
The film was written with two stars in mind
The movie was written with Kate and Cameron in mind, director Nancy Meyers admitted.
She said: “You know, I think a screenwriter would lie to you if they said, “I don’t think about anybody when I am writing.” I can’t imagine it, you know somebody has got to say it and do it. It’s natural to start fantasizing about who is going to be in it and I think Cameron is a great comedienne and I thought about this before I cast her and once I cast her she continued to thrill me in that area.
“Cameron’s really a girl’s girl and boys adore her obviously. She seemed absolutely the right choice for a California girl.”
She then said if you’re writing about a 30-year-old woman in England you “obviously think of Kate Winslet”.
And while some of the interior shots of Iris’ cottage were actually filmed in LA, along with the California scenes, Cameron and Jude didn’t bump into Jack Black and Kate Winslet that much.
It was as if “Kate and Jack did their movie; Judge and I did ours,” Cameron said.
